Yoga and Gym

Starting from grade 11 until the first quarter of grade 12, I went to the gym to exercise and I also joined the yoga classes. The yoga classes were done twice a week and I went to join every week.

I always believed that my weakness is physical activities. I am not good at sports, so I wanted to challenge myself on what I could not and do not want to do. Since yoga is a good exercise for my body and also to keep me mentally fit, I have decided to join yoga classes. At first, I was really hesitant to go and learn because I was really scared that I would get embarrassed. However, when I went to learn it, I realized that it was really good to exercise.

Although I was sometimes tired of my schoolworks, I always tried my best to make it to the yoga classes because I knew that it would be able to get rid of my stress and keep me physically fit. It was sometimes really tiring but I am proud of myself that I was able to continue it until the end.

In addition to yoga, I also went to the gym to exercise. I wanted to keep myself physically fit and there were trainers who were there to help me. I wanted to continue but I had to stop because of the operation that I had. However, I believe that this was an opportunity for me to get interest in doing physical activities. If I am able to recover and do physical activities without any pain, I hope to continue to learn yoga again and also go to the gym. Overall, it was a fun and a challenging experience for me.

Education Outreach

As we started grade 12, we have formed an education outreach group. This group was formed to continue what we have done for GIN Education. Our group was formed by grade 12 students with Dr. Santiago as our adviser.

At first, we had no idea on what to do because we had no decided school. However, we were able to find a school with the help of Dr. Santiago. When we found a school, we went to visit the school right away. During the visit, we realized that the school was quite good than what we have expected. However, we still wanted to help in the field of sports because the students of that school loved to do sports but they lacked sports materials.

After the visit, we had several meetings to decide on what we could buy for them and how we are supposed to raise funds to buy those things. When we were brainstorming about those things, we realized that the Christmas Bazaar was in a few days. Because of that, we started to prepare for food that we can sell on the Christmas Bazaar. I, together with other members of the group, prepared so much for it but 3 days before the bazaar, I had to have the operation. When I was moved to the room after the operation, that was the first thing I worried about. I was worried that I could no longer go to the bazaar to help my other members.

I was really sad that I could not do it any more and I asked my mom for help because I wanted to help my other members. So, the night before the bazaar, my mom and other members of the group gathered in my house to prepare the food for next day. Also, I made sure that the barbecue that we were going to sell at the bazaar is ordered properly. Although this was just two days after my surgery, I believed that I still had to do my responsibilities in the group. With the hardwork of the members of the group, we were able to raise a lot of money from the bazaar. On that day itself, we were able to raise more than 4000 pesos.

Next thing that we had to decide on was what to buy for the school. Since we noticed from the visit that they were really interested in badminton and they also lacked the volleyballs, we decided to buy badminton shuttlecocks and volleyballs for the school. When we were ready with all the things we needed, we had to schedule a day to invite them to our school. During this time, I really felt stressed at some point because our school had so many activities and it was hard to schedule it with the school that we were helping. I had to contact the principal of the school several times to fix this problem. We continued to contact each other for about 2 months until we realized that it is no longer possible to invite them here and our option was to go to the school. When we finally decided on the date, we immediately went to the school to hand them the things that we have bought for them.

During the visit, we played dodgeball with them. At first, it seemed hard to let them be engaged on the game but as the time went on, we were really enjoying the time with the kids. After the game, we handed them candies for their active participation. We were really thankful that they were even happy with the candies that we prepared for them. We also handed them the things and it was the end of our project. Although we were not able to do much for the year, I was really happy that we were at least able to make the school happy with our little effort. I was also happy that our adviser helped us a lot along our ways and our group really cooperated well to see a good ending. It was once again a great experience for me and I hope it was a happy experience for the school that we helped.

Field Day 2015

Last February 20, 2015, Brent held its annual Field Day. This year, I participated in the activity as a house leader. Being part of the Blue House, I wanted to do more things that could make up for not participating in the Cross Country. Since I felt really sorry to my other house leaders and house members, I wanted to do my best in the Field Day.

This year, I only joined the obstacle race, 4 by 50m relay and 4 by 100m relay. Despite my determination to join actively, I knew that my body was not yet ready to do more than those races. I felt the pain while running the races, but I still wanted to do my best. I felt more sorry to my other house leaders when I saw that they were running races that they don't want to do because there was no one who wanted to participate in that particular race. A lot of members and leaders of our house were injured and it was difficult for them to participate as well. When I saw that they cannot do it, I wanted to do it for them instead, but it was also hard for me to do it.

Since I cannot join in many races, I still did my best to do my responsibilities as a house leader. I actively helped the beginners, juniors and intermediates in getting ready for their races. I ran after them to keep them safe and organized. It was a really sunny day and I was really tired going after one activity to another but I knew that it was not only me who was tired. Although I got really sunburned at the end of the day, I know that it was just a way to contribute to our house and I really did my best to do my duties as a house leader. For that reason, I really did not have regrets.

Although Blue house was only able to garner second place at the Field day, I believe that it was really the best we could do despite all the injuries and others. I believe that this was not possible without the determination of other house members and leaders who were willing to run different races for the house. I am really thankful to everyone and feel sorry about not being more active in the races. I think that this was also an opportunity for more cooperation within the house and also a chance for me to also fight against my weakness, which is the doing sports.

Model United Nations Assembly 2015

Last February 7-8, 2014, our Model United Nations team of Brent Baguio attended the Model United Nations Assembly at the World Health Organization. This was the real simulation of the Model United Nations. This year, I was given such a big country, China, and I have joined in the Human Rights Council.

At first, I was really scared about the country choice and the council because it would be really hard to represent China in a Human Rights Council. However, I was really determined to speak up much during this conference because I regretted last year that I did not speak up. Because I wanted to speak, I have done so much research about the country and was really prepared to be there.

When we were there, I was nervous once again but I learned from last year to be confident in what I have to say. With that determination, I was able to speak up so much during our council meeting. In addition to that, I was really happy that the resolution that I made was able to make it to the General Assembly where all the delegates would discuss and debate about it. Since it was the resolution that I have made with so much effort, the effort put into it was really worth it. Although it was not able to pass at the General Assembly, I was still happy with what I was able to accomplish.

Although this is my Model United Nations Conference of my high school life, I have no regrets on this year's conference. I believe that I have done my best and it all paid off. Unlike last year, I was able to be confident to deliver my ideas and skills. It was really thankful to our adviser, Ms. Lena, for preparing me and other members to be active at the conference. I was also happy to be with a fun group with other members of MUN and I really enjoyed the cooperation within our group. We often helped each other when someone needed help in writing a resolution or making an opening speech. This MUN conference was one that I would never forget in my life. This may be my last MUN conference of my high school life but I hope to continue it throughout my life at the university.

Lessons and Carols 2014

Last December 13, 2014, Brent Baguio held its annual Lessons and Carols. Lessons and Carols is an activity where the community choir, readers and different leaders come together to worship and celebrate the birth of Christ. Luckily, I was chosen as a reader this year to participate in the Lessons and Carols.

My role in the Lessons and Carols was not really a big role but it was really a meaningful activity for me to appreciate the community choir and everyone who was gathered there to remember again the birth of Christ and celebrate it together. Although I would only read for less than a minute, the practice was still fun and I really enjoyed it. I was really amazed by how the community choir with some of my classmates managed to carry out such a great series of songs.

This may be my last Lessons and Carols in my life at Brent but I still hope to join such activities in the future to appreciate Christ's birth and the importance of my community.

Cross Country 2014

Last December 5, 2014, our school had the Cross Country. However, I was really sad that I was not able to run our last Cross Country. Last November 18, I had an appendectomy and because of that, I was not allowed to have any strenuous activities. I still attended as a House leader and I cheered for my Blue house members.

It was not only that I was sad but I felt so sorry to my other house leaders and house members because I could not run it. I was only able to watch and cheer for them. Although there is no next Cross country for us, seniors, I was more determined to participate actively in the next activities.

UN Day: Blue House Garden

Last October 13-17, 2014, our school held the United Nations week. This year, the theme was about Family gardening. This dealt with the global issue of how our world has to sustain its resources for the present and the future generations. With that theme, the house leaders helped the lower school in building their hanging gardens and also, each house built its own unique house gardens.

The Blue House came up with a plan of building a covered garden. We planted tomatoes and different kinds of lettuce. I, Jennifer and Gary participated in planting the seedlings. It was really fun although it was somewhat hard to plant the seedlings. When we were all done planting, we watered the plants and hoped that it would grow well. We were really happy that we were done building our house garden.

However, the work did not end there. We had to take care of the garden so that the plants can grow well. As a result, the house leaders took turns in watering the plants. Our house garden seemed to be really successful at first because the plants were really growing well. However, after some months, our plants began to die. We realized that our garden was receiving too much light and we were on a vacation so we did not get to take care of it really well. I was really sad that it was really dying. We were not able to take care of it really well and had to leave it dying.

I believe that this activity was something that really needed perseverance. We cannot stop at one point and we have to cooperate to take care of it. It is really sad that we were not able to take care of it until the end but I know that we have placed much effort into it. It was a good experience and I hope to use that experience in the future.
