White Coats On Every Kid Meeting

Last week Tuesday, November 26, 2013, the members of the club met for a weekly meeting together with Mr. Busschaert, the club adviser, and Dr. Santiago, the CAS adviser. In preparation for the activity for December 7, 2013, we had to decide on a topic to work on.

This time, we were to decide on our own without the help of the advisers. At first, it was hard for us to think of a topic but then as we started to think about it, we were able to come up with an idea. We decided to do the designing a shirt with markers and showing the kids that the ink would smudge with alcohol but not with water. We decided on this topic so that the kids would have something memorable before the semester would end and to teach them the concept of polarity.

When this topic was decided, we had another difficulty. It was about how to explain the concept to the kids. It was hard to think of easier concepts to explain it. However, we were able to brainstorm and come up with an idea of dissolving sand in water and dissolving salt in water. We decided to explain it using the comparison between the two. The meeting ended at that.

On December 3, 2013, the members once again met for another meeting. It was about the same activity but we had to specifically design it and also decide on an icebreaker for the kids. This meeting was easy to agree on because most of the members participated in the meeting. The materials to bring were all distributed to the members and we have decided that we would do the 'newspaper dance' as our icebreaker.

However, sadly, the activity was not able to be carried on due to some reasons. I was sad that we would not be able to do the activity with the kids but I believe that it would be a chance for us to strengthen our activities so that we would be able to do better the next time.
