Christmas for Everyone

Last December 22 and 23, 2013, I went to different low income areas in the Philippines to share the spirit of Christmas to the community. For several months, I have saved some of my allowance to give Christmas gifts to 100 children in these communities. With the saved money, I was able to buy notebooks, pencils, markers, rulers and small snacks. I have packed them the night before I went to visit them.

When I reached the communities, we first had a service to thank the Lord for the gifts of life and their presence. After that, we had a small Christmas party for them. They also had prepared some dances to celebrate it. It was really fun for me and I believe that it was also a fun time for them as well. I was more happy to see the smiles on the faces of the kids.

I really felt good when I saw that the kids were happy with the presents that I gave them. However, there were also difficulties because the kids started to crowd around the area where I was distributing the gifts for them. Some of them wanted to get more and so, others were fighting for it. It was solved when other people in the community asked them to line up again. It was somewhat chaotic in the distribution but I understand that the kids were really excited and happy with the gifts I have for them.

Through this experience of sharing Christmas with them, I really felt the joy of Christmas as I shared little bit of what I have with others. Although it isn't much, I think I was able to make them happy through the little effort I made for them. I was really glad to have that chance to meet new people and immerse in their community as they have their celebration for Christmas. This activity really meant a lot as I got to see the smiles on their faces and I realized that I am becoming more and more blessed and happy with these experiences. If I have the chance, I want to do more of these activities with them.
