AFSL Youth Leadership Congress 2014

Last January 17-18, 2014, I was chosen to attend the Asian Federation of Student Leaders Youth Leadership Congress. First of all, I was really happy to be given the chance to be there. It was held at Southville International School. A lot of students from different schools around the Philippines were gathered there to attend the various modules planned for the 2-day session. The guest speakers really had a lot to tell us regarding how to manage people, manage time, manage self and others as a youth leader.

In this conference, I cannot say that it was all successful. There were too much modules prepared but there was always a lack of time. It was somewhat unorganized because of that but I think I learned a lot because of the activities prepared for us. What I liked the most was that there was an activity where in we get to mingle and talk to other students from another school. This was really helpful for me because I usually cannot approach other people well when I am not really close with them. However, through this experience, I somehow broke out of that shell and tried to talk to others to meet new people. As a leader, I think that is really important. Although I may not be an important leader of the school or any organization right now, I hope that I will develop the skills to be one through these activities. I think this was a great one to be courageous to build up self-confidence.

Another good experience was that we, our school, got a special award for "Model Delegates". This award was given to us because we showed an effort to remain after the day was over to clean up the venue. This made me realize that we should always strive hard to do good because that is how we can set an example to others.

It was also a great time spent with other delegates and advisers from our school because I got to know them better and they were really supportive of each other. I hope that there would be more of these opportunities so that I can grow to be a great leader of now and even in the future.
