GIN Education

Last May 10, 2014, the GIN Education group held its fourth and last activity for the school year 2013-2014. When planning for the activity, we had a harder time in deciding what to do as an activity since this was the last activity for the school year. Thinking about an activity, we realized that Mother's Day was on the next day of the scheduled day. Because of this, we started to work on what we need for making this a successful activity. We came up with the materials needed which were coloring materials, glue, scissors, tape, colored paper, pencils and pens, lined paper and shiny scented paper. We decided to origami as well for the kids in grades 4 to 6.

Like this last activity, we had 3 other activities this school year under GIN Education group. The other activities also involved planning and initiating of the activities. We always had a difficulty in deciding what activity to do because we wanted to find something that would be fun and educational at the same time for the kids. We had activities like coloring, learning new songs, having a mini field day and a mini cross country with clues.

At first, I and other members of the group had a really difficult time because we had a barrier in language. However, as time went on, we really tried to understand each other and were able to get along well together. The activities that we prepared were really fun for us as well and I hope the kids enjoyed it, too. Although we had to spend some weekends to do the activities, I think it was all worth it. However, I am worried that some of us might have hurt the feelings of other kids because we do not know well about their background. As a result, we might have hurt them instead of helping them.

Overall, I think that the activities were really successful in a way that everyone was doing their work seriously and I felt lesser and lesser barriers in language. I think we were really used to each kid's needs and knew somewhat about their characteristics which made it easier to handle them. I was sad that this was already the last activity of the year but I was hopeful that we would be able to continue this meaningful activity in the succeeding years.
